iPearl mCover Hard Shell Case for 11.6 Deals

This review is from: iPearl mCover Hard Shell Case for 11.6" Samsung Chromebook (Wi-Fi or 3G) laptop - CLEAR (Personal Computers)
Love this cover! I searched for a long time to find a cover for my Samsung Chromebook. It's a perfect fit, snaps on easy, and gives my Chromebook the protection it needs. My choice was the clear, it's hard to even tell there's a cover on. I received my cover so quickly, this company is great!

I cannot say enough positive things about this case...not only does it fit like a second skin and provides excellent protection against scratches as well as minor drops, but it has built-in little "feet" that unfold and fits very ergonomically on a laptop "lap pad" (as well as on a desktop, but I use mine primarily on my lap). It makes my second-hand Chromebook look like brand-new...

I first purchased this case in black for our chromebook. We liked the chromebook so much we bought a second one and a second case. The second case fit on the chromebook like normal until you opened it. The case would not stay seated and kept lifting off. When I contacted iPearl they immediately offered a refund as long as I paid to have it sent back. Huh? I buy not one but 2 of your products one is defective and I have to pay to return it to you?

This review is from: iPearl mCover Hard Shell Case for 11.6" Samsung Chromebook (Wi-Fi or 3G) laptop - Orange (Personal Computers)
This case fits the 11.6 chromebook very well. It doesn't add too much bulk to the computer, and it still fits nice and snug in my backpack. The range of colors available is great and I am highly pleased with my orange one!
The stands on the bottom of the case come in handy.
Would recommend to any chromebook user!

I'm not sure the cover really protects against anything. It's more of a fashion statement than anything else if not for the two little legs that make typing a dream! Normally, after a certain amount of time typing my wrists can't help but get sore. But with the incline this case provides that's no longer an issue.

It's almost perfect. I would have given it 5 stars if it had not been for one weak spot. One of the hooks that clips onto the hinge warps up just enough not to seat properly in the crevice between the base and the screen. However, I modified it by filing a taper on the leading edge. This encasement offers the device THE best protection against scratches. I haven't had it long and have already received some scratches on the case. The case is easily replaceable at this remarkably low price and available in an array of colors. The case is very durable right down to its best feature.....the snap out props. It puts the device at a perfect incline that needs no adjustment. The ventilation on the bottom is really not necessary because this device runs very cool. It may serve as a moisture vent if any moisture gets trapped. On the subject of moisture, the bag that it was shipped in makes a nice "raincoat" for those foul weather days. I am really impressed with this product and will probably by another color!

The top doesn't fit correctly, specifically the rounded right snap that is supposed to protect and guide the machine as it opens and closes- very disappointing. Nonethess, the "kickstands" on the back are nice, as is the coloring.

This review is from: iPearl mCover Hard Shell Case for 11.6" Samsung Chromebook (Wi-Fi or 3G) laptop - Blue (Personal Computers)
Although this review is based on the black cover for the 11.6" Samsung Chromebook - there are a total of nine colors of this product available. All are exactly the same except for the color. iPearl makes a variety of custom covers for tablets and laptops.
QODVU / RATINGS
QUALITY / 8: Remember, this IS plastic. However, it appears well made. The matte finish on the black cover does show fingerprints where it was touched - unless your fingers are super-squeaky clean. I think they might show less on the clear cover. For other offered colors, this might be a concern.
OPERATION & FUNCTION / 8: Once attached, the cover does not interfere with opening or closing the Chromebook. Since the cover functions to protect the Chromebook - I would have to give the function aspect a lower rating from what the company seems to imply on Amazon. It will protect it from scratches - my main concern, but don't expect it to protect it much if you drop your Samsung. It is not thick or padded enough to prevent the shock of a drop or damage. The company states it will protect your Chromebook and that the covers are shatterproof. If you read through it too fast, you will think it will protect it from major bumps or even a drop. The company seems to say it will protect the corners and it might protect it some from slight bumps while carrying it.
DESIGN / 8: The cover is actually in two parts. Each part was wrapped in plastic and placed in an Amazon box when it arrived - well packaged. One piece snaps onto the screen, and the other onto the keyboard. This was very easy - requires no instructions. Just don't try to force them - make sure the small snap "tags" are in the right place. I took my time. The cover adds to the weight and thickness of the Samsung, noticeably so. The feet are a little difficult to open (hard to get a good hold with your fingers)...best have good fingernails! I am not sure how long they will hold up but appear to be good for plastic. Covers fit tight - no looseness or gaps noted. Bottom is very well vented to dissipate heat, even though there are no vents on the Chromebook itself. Nor does the bottom block the speakers (there are cut-outs). An added bonus: It appears that the plastic cover helps reinforce the screen...and helps reduce the pressure (from possible bending) on the screen when opening.
VALUE / 7: I think the company could shave off $3-$5 as $20 for two pieces of plastic seems a bit much, albeit a custom fit. Certainly the free shipping doesn't cost the company that much. I think $16.99 and these things would sell much faster. Even though I do not give "5s" freely, I think I could boost my personal rating to a "5" if the price were lowered and the company implied claims were toned down a little. Still, I think it will do for me what I require of it. It does not look as cheap as I expected it would, probably due to the excellent fit and the matte look. Fingerprints might be a concern for some and they do not rub off easily. But to be honest, I am not sure how they would resolve this.
UPDATES (Reserved): After a couple of days of using this product, I am relatively happy with it. My only concern might be that the bottom cover may not allow heat to dissipate as much as without it, even though there are plenty of vent holes cut into the bottom cover. It seems to be warmer when I have it in my lap though I am still using it. The cover is not as good as my wife's Apple rubber-like iPad cover, but since something like that is not available for this product at this writing, it's the next best thing. Still a keeper.

I bought this for my son's chromebook. This is the first year his school are using chromebooks, and so we wanted to protect it so it wouldn't get ruined. My son saw this and wanted to try it. It's lightweight, a great price, and the seller shipped it right away! I'd highly recommend both this item & this seller.

I upgraded from a laptop that was five years old so almost anything would seem amazing next to my old dino. But, I think I can say that unless you are a hardcore gamer or for some reason you feel that you absolutely need an optical disk drive, you will be very satisfied with this laptop just as I am. Yeah some people are being really nit-picky about viewing angles and such but seriously, it's not an issue unless you're a paraplegic and can't adjust the screen angle (you have to do it every time you open the laptop anyway). I am very, very happy with the battery life. I can use it at school for several hours and still return home with 20% battery left...it's so nice not to have to bring a charger all the time. It's incredibly slim and light. I get compliments on it all the time. The only thing I'm not super excited about is the hard-drive capacity; it's marketed at about 125gb but when you open the computer for the first time you quickly find out that after the OS, you only have about 60gb for yourself and the SSD is not easily upgrade-able like on older laptops. Nothing an external can't fix and it'll probably keep me from cluttering it up anyway. But at the end of the day, all these things are just minor trade-offs for having an otherwise very slick, slim, and light laptop.

I read the reviews on this laptop and decided that it honestly couldn't be that bad, and I was right.
I understand what the reviewers are saying. The colors DO wash out if you tilt the screen forward or backward. However, tilting the display far enough to uncomfortably wash out the screen poses bigger problems, like the fact that the screen is at a horribly awkward angle. It was fine out of the box, but I calibrated the display (took 3 min) and now it's quite good.
Back to the good, this laptop is THIN. It's hard to appreciate its size until you truly see it. At 15 inches, it's easily one of (if not the) thinnest 15 inchers on the market. It doesn't hurt that it's a looker too.
The windows experience index is 5.9, with the lowest being the graphics (5.9) which is expected. The rest of the specs are in the high 6's or low 7's
I recommend working your way through a clean install and getting all the crap off, considering you don't get too much harddrive space with all of the preloaded crap.
I love this laptop, and gave it 4 stars mostly because of the bloatware, and that windows 8 is meh on a laptop without a touchscreen. However, it's certainly a great laptop and the reviews don't do it justice

I went from an Alienware M15X to this and don't regret it. The alienware was really, really bad with battery life and I knew that before I got it. I just didn't realize how often I would start going out to other places where a plug wasn't readily accessible before I got it. I never used the alienware for serious gaming anyway just for software dev. The Samsung Series 9 works great to dev on and the battery life is amazing. I am generally around 8 hours per charge now, which isn't 10 hours, but is still great.
I do not have any problem with the keyboard or the trackpad like other reviewers claimed. There is a side swipe in windows 8 that got annoying but then I just turned it off. I was worried that this only being an i5 processor that running photoshop, aptana, WAMP, eclipse, and many chrome tabs would slow it down. Well, I was wrong. It kept up pretty well with everything that I was doing. If I had a bad experience at one point, it at least wasn't bad enough to stick in my head.
Bad notes: The screen does look a little washed out compared to my alienware. I also really, really wish it had a better screen resolution. But in actuality, I don't even think or notice it at all in my normal daily activities.
I got this thing on amazon for an almost $400 discount because of a free $200 amazon gift card that came with purchasing the laptop, and the laptop was already marked down $200 on sale. I love it especially for its battery life and looks. Processing power though is also good.

Samsung Series 3 NP350E7C-A01US Intel 3rd generation Core i7-3630 Deals

This review is from: Samsung Series 3 NP350E7C-A01US Intel 3rd generation Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz ~ 1TB ~ 8GB ~ 17.3" HD+ LED (1600x900) ~ DVD+/-RW ~ BlueTooth 4.0 ~ WiDi ~ Windows 8 (Personal Computers)
bought this laptop to help me edit photos I take as I am learning photography. I needed a laptop that could handle a photo editing program, such as PhotoShop, and lots of storage for saved photos. So far, it's working great for this purpose, with one exception: Windows 8 does not recognize .dat files of online photo editors such as Pixlr or Picmonkey, so that's a negative. Since I am use to Windows Vista, I was a little worried about getting a laptop with the new Windows 8 system, but once you get used to the vastly different arrangement of everything, it's pretty cool and easy to use. Overall, I am very satisfied.

Early 2013 I searched for exactly this configuration: 17", 8gb, core i7. The general starting price was $900. Not only is the Samsung 3 a bargain at $700, the remaining stats are almost to good to be true, 2.4ghz, 1tb, and so on.
My first impression usng the laptop was how fast it booted and how quiet it was. So far I haven't seen any issues installing the programs I usually use. It's exactly the laptop I wanted.
Then there's Windows 8: at first I hated it, but after delving deeper into it, the new possibilities are definitely intriguing. There are two "realms" in the new windows, the desktop which is the old interface and the app world, which is the new interface. Switching back and forth is cumbersome at first, and the default configuration has you falling out of desktop and into the metro interface quite often. But you can work pretty much the way you used to in Windows 7 by 1) learning the shortcuts, e.g.windows key+d returns you to desktop mode. 2) select desktop applications as default programs for common filetypes (pdf, jpg, mp3, avi, etc) - if a metro app is the default you leave desktop mode when opening the object and don't return to desktop when closing. 3) I haven't done this yet, but you can also install one of a number of programs that reinstates the start menu and disables the charms menu. Though the start window is different than the old start menu, the search available there appears to me to do the job, so I will try it out some more before making this move.
What some people might miss: this dvd drive does not support blu ray, and the touch pad does not have an external switch to enable/disable.
All in all, a dream configuration at this price. I'm beginning to like Samsung.

Samsung ATIV Book 5 14-Inch Deals
By Woodrow Benson (McLean, VA USA) -
This review is from: Samsung ATIV Book 5 14-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook (Mineral Ash Black) (Personal Computers)
I liked the ATIV Book 5 enough that when I had to return it because of a minor issue I got a replacement rather than a different laptop. (Hats off to Amazon for remarkable service; they sent me a new one even before I returned the old one, so that I wasn't without a computer.) This unit has an excellent keyboard and touch pad, plus good battery life. It's also speedy and the build quality seems good. On the negative side, the screen is not as crisp as some others--look elsewhere if you're a video fanatic--and the black finish is a real fingerprint magnet. It's reasonably nice looking but not as cool as other Samsung laptops.

I bought this computer to replace my old acer netbook and I have been pleasantly surprised by how wonderful this Samsung computer is. I like the 14 inch size, it's not too big or too small but perfect for my needs. The computer is very very light and is also extremely fast. I looked for a touch screen computer that was not too expensive or too heavy and I read a lot of reviews before I chose this one. I am happy that I decided to go for this ultrabook laptop. Although I paid less than $800 for it the computer looks and feels like a high end laptop. I like the great finish, big keyboard, great speakers and the battery lasts for a long long time. Even windows 8 does not feel as bad as other reviewers have said.

Bought this laptop as I liked Samsung products and specs suited my needs, with plans to install Win 7 on it.
But I can't seem to do it. This thing has so many security and recovery things on it I can't boot from my external DVD drive.
In a nutshell, if you like what apple and the icommunity does, go buy one. I bought this laptop because I don't like what i does, did not want, was a PC loyalist, and now guess what? I have purchased my hard earned money for a laptop that does not do what I want it to do. If I wanted a macbook I would've bought a macbook. This is like some shootoff of what I thought a macbook was. Total junk. Apps? Seriously? Online recovery and backup? What?!?!?! NO

I bought this for my fiancee. I have a Series 9 (new edition) and love it. Therefore decided to buy this newly upgraded ATIV 9.
I love everything about this laptop; very thin, very lightweight, stunning screen(resolution, colors etc.), lightning fast (takes 1-2 seconds to resume or 5-6 seconds to turn it on).
It might be a little expensive, but I believe that this is the best ultrabook for the price.

This computer is everything I could have wanted and more. The battery life is great, computer is fast and best of all the screen is absolutely beautiful! I didn't think I would like Windows 8, but I ended up really enjoying it and would recommend everyone to give it a chance and you will warm up to it.
Cons: To be hoenst I can't say anything bad about this computer. It looks gorgeous, is fast and is extremely portable.
Would recommend to everyone! 5*****

I haven't bought a laptop in a long time and wanted one under 3 pounds at a reasonable price. I considered a Toshiba Protégé, Asus Zenbook, Acer S5 and a Thinkpad Carbon X1 besides this Samsung model. I ended up choosing the Samsung because of its matte screen and good price. It weighs 2 pounds 7.5 ounces (1120 grams) and the A/C power adapter weights 9.2 ounces (264 grams). Not under 3 pounds but close.
After my initial use I only see one design flaw. The USB 3.0 port is on the left side right next to the power plug. If the laptop is on A/C power, you cannot plug in a normal USB flash drive in the USB 3.0 port at the same time ;( You will need a slim flash drive (no wider than standard USB cables) to have both plugged in at the same time. Hopefully Samsung will make both USB ports 3.0 in the future.

Samsung Series 3 NP300E5C-A08US 15.6-Inch Deals

This review is from: Samsung Series 3 NP300E5C-A03US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Blue Silver) (Personal Computers)
This is a 2 part review. 2nd part is in response to the reviewer who gave this laptop a low rating for a 100 MHz typo.
Runs as I expected and looks stylish. My wife can take this to work and people seem to look at it quite a bit.
Has Samsung included apps for the general public to make everything easier. Samsung easy Migration works much better than the Easy Transfer from Windows.
Pro's
* Fast and smooth.
* Stylish Blue tint.
* Clear screen with typical resolution.
* Lighter than expected which is a plus for her.
* Samsung apps seem to be fluid
Con's
* 2.5 instead of 2.6 GHz (minor typo)
* Bloatware. Personally I hate Norton products because they are so intrusive and it takes more than just the uninstall to remove.
This was purchased to replace my wifes aging Lenovo G530 with a 2 Ghz T6400 C2D. Mostly she uses her laptop for facebook, shopping, minor games, and documents. She also uses her company VPN and Quickbooks but that is almost the extent of her laptop useage.
Being that she does so little, this is more than enough machine for her. However I bought it because she was looking at a few games and her previous machine could not play much of anything. For example she likes the Sims 3, and a few puzzle games.

So far so good...I needed a better processor with higher RAM and memory, plus something that allowed me to work from home when necessary. This laptop can run several programs, including Microsoft Office, simultaneously and at a good processing speed. The keyboard is very comfortable to use; and setting it up was easy. Very happy with this!

Have had this laptop for about a week now. Overall I am very happy with it. Had never owned a samsung laptop beofre but due to quality of their over products decided to go for it. I had picked out a slightly different model on another site but it sold out. Did a bit of looking and found this one.
This is a great buy for the $. Love the I5 cpu, wish the HD was 7200prm or SSD but for less than $800 it would be hard to find that. The screen is quite nice and bright, does a great job with different media. Onboard graphics can be pretty bad sometimes but I have to say that its not the case here. The other thing I found quite surprising was just how light it is. For a 15.6 laptop i have to say its quite light and really portable.
If your looking for a decent laptop that you use for school, media, surfing and want to be able to travel easy with it this could be for you.

Really, a very good laptop for the price (sub 700$ and free shipping). The i5 processor is plenty fast for most typical purposes. The 6G of memory is equally nice.
What I did was to purchase a 128GB SSD to replace the platter hard drive to really give this laptop some speed. Typical platter based hard drives are a big bottleneck, but I simply won't pay the premium to have them pre-installed at a big markup, so I do it myself.
Also, I have to look around to find a screen with a 'Matte' finish. I really don't understand why so many screens these days are the high-gloss finish with an awful glare. Matte finish on this is very nice.
So far, no problems. All things considered, the bang for the buck on this laptop is pretty good. The construction is solid, and the manufacturing looks very good. If I needed another mid-end laptop, I'd probably get this one.

I'm no computer nerd so I'm not going to bore you with specifics because to be honest I don't know a lot about them except for the hardware. What I do know is this computer is FAST, built solid, lightweight, charges fast, holds a charge quite well and does everything we need it to do. Windows 8 was little weird at first but once I got a hang of it it's not much different than other versions you just have to figure out where things are. For the price it's a solid little rig and I wish this was mine instead of the wifes now I'm jealous because I'm stuck with our 8 year old desktop and she can walk all around the house and do everything plus more than I can. Yes, she loves it too but I should have bought it for myself. :-)

Samsung has long been a favorite of mine, along with Dell, but the ATIV Book 2 has put Samsung in the lead for good. It boots up in seconds and is ready to do a good days work or play. I did install word (work and my writing require it), but other than that I was working on it within 8 minutes. (I'm slow, LOL)
The screen is amazing and the picture quality is as well. This is one of the best laptops I have ever used and will buy another one when this one gets to old. This is ideal for the anyone who wants a light weight laptop to carry with them!!

I love this unit! I changed from a Dell which I am sick of! This is so much easier to use and Samsung has some of their own features that make it worth every penny. On the down side, it has a feature on the touch pad that you can change screens by sliding your finger from the outside edge. I find this to be a pain as another screen will pop up if I go to far over from the center of the touch pad. the only other thing I would have REALLY liked is a back lit keyboard! I can deal with the touch pad issue but the Non-Backlit keyboard is the only thing that kept me from giving this a 5 star rating.
I would still HIGHLY recommend this unit and the Samsung brand! Outstanding product and quality made! Really worth it!

I bought this for my oldest going into high school. she needed her own computer and portability should she need it at school. This is light weight and with a touch screen you can't ask for a better deal. It was right at back to school which I think brought the price down to just under $600. Fabulous.

This review is from: Samsung NP300V5A-A06US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Personal Computers)
Update: The repair process was a nightmare and a failure. The cheap plastic power port is hard-wired to the motherboard and when they break, which is VERY common, the whole board needs to be replaced. We got one fixed but then the same thing happened again immediately after it was returned to us. With the other one, they claimed the moisture sensor under the keyboard had been triggered at some point, voiding the warranty. So although this had NOTHING to do w/ the problem, they refused to fix it.
Also, while they were still working they would regularly give us the "blue screen of death", dumping and loosing all unsaved content. NOT COOL!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I bought 2 of these and I was very impressed. They gave great performance and I loved their durable shell. Unfortunately the ac-in on both broke quickly. First the cords would just slip out easily. But finally one, and then a few months later the other, just stopped accepting a charge completely. Now I have 2 paperweights. Fortunately I only bought them about 8 months ago from Costco and I'm hoping that I can get them repaired or replaced.
Also, one of the charging cables failed after only about 5 months. I had to buy a replacement from Amazon for around $30.
I particularly was pleased that it wasn't over-bundled with a bunch of useless software. We mostly used it for Internet, DVD watching, connecting to TVs to watch movies. It was great for those tasks.
If it wasn't for the ac issue, I'd have given this product 4 or 5 stars because it was a great product for the price.
Stay away from this unit and all Samsungs that have this same body style. The cooling system is awful, housing 100% very thin plastic,
Video and Cpu processors are combined on the Intel B950 and the cooling system can't keep up.
I have owned 2 of them both had same problem. Don't even think of playing any kind of 3D game useless you do I what I did and take the entire system motherboard out of case and put a 120mm FAN on top of the CPU heat sink and add Artic Sivler thermal paste.
If you do not know anything about computers stay away from this one.
I purchased this item for a xmas present...Samsung typically has a good reputation....however this item broke in 5 days....the ac adapter port where you plug in the ac plug is very cheap plastic and broke after 5 days...NOT the adapter but the computer end....I purchase about 5 computers a year and took a chance on a Amazon order...never again will I purchase a Samsung computer or any item from Samsung...buyer beware....I would say that most of these items are now made in China which has very, very poor quality..I loaded MS office and several other programs in those 5 days which required activation and now am out 100's of dollars...Amazon was very good on my refund so I do not have a beef with them...Shame on you Samsung for poor quality items...I will never buy a Samsung product again
Video and Cpu processors are combined on the Intel B950 and the cooling system can't keep up.
I have owned 2 of them both had same problem. Don't even think of playing any kind of 3D game useless you do I what I did and take the entire system motherboard out of case and put a 120mm FAN on top of the CPU heat sink and add Artic Sivler thermal paste.
If you do not know anything about computers stay away from this one.
I purchased this item for a xmas present...Samsung typically has a good reputation....however this item broke in 5 days....the ac adapter port where you plug in the ac plug is very cheap plastic and broke after 5 days...NOT the adapter but the computer end....I purchase about 5 computers a year and took a chance on a Amazon order...never again will I purchase a Samsung computer or any item from Samsung...buyer beware....I would say that most of these items are now made in China which has very, very poor quality..I loaded MS office and several other programs in those 5 days which required activation and now am out 100's of dollars...Amazon was very good on my refund so I do not have a beef with them...Shame on you Samsung for poor quality items...I will never buy a Samsung product again
The Atheros wireless card that came installed in this laptop was defective and wouldn't hold a connection no matter what network it was connected to. I contacted Samsung and they confirmed that it seemed to be a hardware issue. I returned it and got a replacement laptop. Same issue. I did some research and these cards are just bad. It's a shame because otherwise, the computer is great, but trying to deal with the all the internet issues and hardware problems were beyond frustrating. Terrible experience.
Purchased this Samsung Laptop (NEW) as a Christmas gift from "City Electronic" thru Amazon.com. AVOID BUYING FROM THE THIS SELLER.... Here is why. When this laptop arrived, it started to BLUESCREEN from the beginning..having some knowledge of Windows machines..I ran a hardware check and found that the Ram or memory was defective. I immediately contacted the seller and ask for a refund or exchange...the seller told me to contact Samsung and refuse to take it back...called Amazon and filed a complaint...because third party sellers must have a 30 day return or exchange policy ...but that did not matter, because the seller was still allowed to sell the same new Laptop thru Amazon.com...Called Samsung and was told mail it to them at my expense and it wound take 3-4 weeks for it to be repaired...later I purchased ram for $42.18 and asked the seller to pay for that ( he did) later after seeing the claim...I swapped out the ram and the laptop worked perfectly (note) the door to the ram and hard drive...is made of very cheap plastic, has to be bent into place for it to fit...I did buy a 3 year SquareTrade warranty for this laptop...did not think that that I should be having to use it 7 days after a new purchased that comes with factory warranty... the seller and Amazon.com let me down....Samsung just has slow and bad customer service...LIKE MOST BIG COMPANIES...bigger is not better. look closely at the seller's return policy before buying from them....good customer service is not important most companies...their bottom line seems to be more profit.
So the laptop itself is not bad at all. it's not to heavy, pretty fast for the specs. However, after only 3 weeks of having it the wireless card needs to be replaced. I contacted Samsung and the service representative was really nice and after 10minutes of talking he set me up with a service appointment. Maybe I just ended up with a faulty laptop, but I expected more from Samsung (even on the lower cheap side of products).
This review is from: Samsung ATIV Book 9 NP900X3E-K01US 13.3-Inch Full HD Premium Ultrabook (Mineral Ash Black) (Personal Computers)
This computer is awesome. i have always used 15" screen laptops in the past, then I decided I wanted to check out a MacBook. I loved the size at 13" and screen was perfectly clear, but I ahve learned that I have no patience for thnigs that just don't work when I need them to, for example I couldn't wirelessly print to any of the printers I owed. So along comes this jem. The same screen size, perfectly clear, the lightest laptop I have ever used and a Solid State HDD to boot. I have never used a machine that was so fast. It boots in about 3 seconds, it comes out of hiberantion in about 2 seconds. I am not a fan of Windows 8 by any strech, but I can tolerate it on this. The lighted keyboard is great, the keys are very responsive, movies look good on this and I use it for almost everything.
So want don't I liek about it, the wireless sucks. I have about 6 laptops of varying makes in my house and all of them work flawlessly from anywhere in my house, but this mahcine drops signals faster than it boots. I mean the wireless is really bad, very frustrating and generally gets me mad enought to want to throw it across the room.
But, I love enerything else about it, so I can suffer a little and just better position myself. It really has so many good points and travels light that I enjoy using it, just have to be careful when i'm trying to get an internet connection.
Update 9/3/13:
So in my review I mention the ohorrible WiFi. I finally called Samsung over the Holiday weekend and they were actually there to ehlp me out. I explained my issues and they had me change a few settings and so far...the Wireless is rocking! If this fixes the WiFi issues, then this is the best laptop I have ever owned.
This review is from: Samsung ATIV Book 9 NP900X3E-K01US 13.3-Inch Full HD Premium Ultrabook (Mineral Ash Black) (Personal Computers)
Pros: Battery life, design, extremely light, amazing matte display, good keyboard, multi-touch gestures, blazing fast ssd.
Cons: Minor issues with touch pad, some settings are hard to find (note: this problem would occur with any windows 8 device so they really aren't cons), no touch screen,cannot upgrade ram(4 gigs is enough for me though)
I would say this laptop fits anyone who wants an extremely portable laptop and can easily slip it into an backpack or carry it around. For someone who wants a top-of-the line ultrabook that is fast, slim, and whose design they can show off because it is flawless. I cannot say enough about the looks of the laptop, especially the display and the back-lit keyboard. Not to mention this thing is fast...
It was expensive but after owning this product for a few weeks I'd say it's worth it because I love it. Check out my full video review here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdYWVXOrYG4
I shopped around and finally decided to spend the extra money, but wow, it was more than worth it. The display is unlike anything I've seen before, the ability to multitask and instantaneously move between tasks is incredible. This ultrabook is the best I've ever had. The speakers are very clear and strong. Everything about it is amazing. I highly recommend this.
I liked the ATIV Book 5 enough that when I had to return it because of a minor issue I got a replacement rather than a different laptop. (Hats off to Amazon for remarkable service; they sent me a new one even before I returned the old one, so that I wasn't without a computer.) This unit has an excellent keyboard and touch pad, plus good battery life. It's also speedy and the build quality seems good. On the negative side, the screen is not as crisp as some others--look elsewhere if you're a video fanatic--and the black finish is a real fingerprint magnet. It's reasonably nice looking but not as cool as other Samsung laptops.
I bought this for my oldest going into high school. she needed her own computer and portability should she need it at school. This is light weight and with a touch screen you can't ask for a better deal. It was right at back to school which I think brought the price down to just under $600. Fabulous.
Computer seems fine. Fires up quick, easy to setup etc. Only issue is they installed 2 u's. one where u goes and another where J goes. Amazon was nice enough to send me another laptop out even before I sent in the defective one. Would have received 5 stars had this not happened. Ill update in a few months as well.
I purchased this computer on July 26th, 2012. It started running slow about seven months later. Took it in to have it checked and saw little improvement. The first week of August 2013 it began really dragging. Again took it in for checking. On August 28th, 2013 I was informed by the technician that the mother board had failed. Of course, the warranty had expired. After conversations with numerous agents at the repair facility, I was informed that they have been seeing this problem throughout their company's stores. The Samsung representative told me that they had no issues with this computer. Replacement of the mother board may be over $200 plus labor. So.... use your own judgment when considering the purchase this one.
I ordered this computer for internet browsing, light school-work, and to run Quickbooks for my company. My other crashed unexpectedly, and I needed a very reasonably priced laptop quick. I chose this one, as it had the best specs out of the computers in my price range. I'm very happy with my decision.
Got the computer early (thanks Go4Computers). I removed some bloatware per other reviews, loaded up Quickbooks, and restored my company's back-up. Voila! Fantastic, zippy computer! Quickbooks opens very fast, processes quick, and internet surfing is speedy. Did make a minor color adjustment to the screen resolution, now the color is great!
I'm very glad I decided to buy a computer with Windows 7, instead of buying a similar computer with Windows 8 from a big box store. I've heard Windows 8 is difficult to use if you're not purchasing a touchscreen laptop. I was tempted, just to have a computer in my hands that day. I'm glad I didn't, because Windows 7 is like butter, and WELL worth the wait.
Overall, I'm very pleased and highly recommend this computer for anyone looking for a basic laptop to get the job done!
Crashed during first week. Had to send to Samsung for repair. Thus far it is working fine. The service took about two weeks. Samsung customer service was efficient and easy to deal with. Overall a good little computer. I hook it to TV to watch movies which is excellent feature. Hookup with Hdmi cable and automatic connection. Keep receiving alert to download sound driver. Each time I try receive upgrade failed message. Also no way to stop annoying Norton needs to be installed even though I uninstalled it. Samsung must have it in the system that even though I uninstalled it is still on computer (hidden, I guess)
Exactly what I was looking for, and it was very affordable. HDMI and VGA output, 3 USB ports, easily adjustable screen brightness and volume. The full keypad is nice, but I don't use it very much. I mostly stream and watch saved movies, and the hardware and software setup is perfect for that. 4+ hours battery life during casual use, but battery life is variable based on screen brightness. I don't have any complaints about buying the i3 setup instead of the i5 or i7, it's worked flawlessly so far.
the notebook was purchased for my girl friend and she like the notebook. however, i hate it!!! the placement of the built in mic is located on the keyboard. because the mic is located on the keyboard, the internal fan and other internal noise can be heard when you are using skype (or other voip app). i also have a hard time understanding her because she is usually typing or doing something while chatting. because her hands are on the keyboard it covers the mic which make her voice sound droned out and when she is typing it creates additional noise. so if you are planning to use skype or some other equivalent software even a few times, i suggest you avoid this notebook. you might not notice anything but the person on the other end will hate it!
This is the first laptop I've owned and I love it. Not to say that there aren't some things I don't like but overall I enjoy using this notebook. So first off...
THE GOOD:
Quick, not too much bloatware, and beautiful vivid picture quality. I mainly use my laptop for going online, checking emails, going on social medias, watching movies, TV shows and clips online, occasional typing and gaming (very casual and very rare gaming), uploading and downloading pictures etc., lots of music downloading and such. I'm able to accomplish these things with satisfaction...which is saying a lot because I have a tendency to be impatient with computers + internet. :)
THE NOT SO GOOD:
The screen is glossy which can pick up glare, but that's pretty much the same with just about any laptop nowadays. The arrow keys...I uploaded a picture about this. The arrow keys are jammed onto the keyboard instead of separated out. It's very easy to click on these keys accidentally. Sometimes MY laptop runs hot (but I tend to run it long hours too). Mostly the left side heats up because that's where the vent is. Easily fixed by getting a cooling fan/pad. Averages about 3.5 hours on a complete charge. That's not bad...but kind of wish it was longer (not that I travel or anything, I could easily keep it plugged up).
SUGGESTION:
If you're a technophile, then no I wouldn't suggest this laptop. For those who want a solid option for a decent price and aren't too nit-picky about every little detail, I would suggest getting it. It may not be able to flawlessly run some MMORPG game, but it'll get the work done and it's a great choice. I don't know about the mic and Skype because I don't use those.
MORE TIPS/SUGGESTIONS(SERIOUSLY THIS IS IT):
Just so you know, Windows Media Player (I think it's version 12 or something) still kind of sucks. You can watch movies on it and do your music thing but sometimes it'll completely mess up the song titles, artist, etc. You may have to manually go in and fix your music. I didn't want anyone blaming the laptop for that.
Also, I'd suggest getting an external hard drive to do backups. You can get a blank DVD disc but it takes F.O.R.E.V.E.R....and a day. And for me it still had problems and wouldn't finish backing up (this is literally doing a backup on the laptop right out of the box with no music, pics or ANYTHING on it). I've read elsewhere that others have this problem with WINDOWS 7 (not the laptop). Amazon may hate me for doing this, but I got a Toshiba 500GB hard drive for $80 at Walmart, which is pretty cheap. It had very good reviews as well. It still takes a while to backup files but not nearly as long as with the disc and very easy to do. Okkkayy, I'm done now.
Incredible laptop with blue ray and LED 16:9 wide angle screen. The look is hot red ceramic with a touch of purple.
The blue ray is incredible. It's fast and feels very well made and solid in your hands. Great keyboard and the picture
is astounding. For the price and the features it beats Apple hands down. Buy this, it will be superior for years to come.By Mark E. Felker "a real cut up" (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
I purchased this laptop from Best Buy on Black Friday in 2010 for $400 ($150 off special), the laptop is fairly reliable, it has nice features such as:
Blu-Ray
Sleek design
Island keyboard
Great screen
The downside:
On the slow side
Crashes sometimes
Charger broke on me
Bad HDMI connection
After two years the charger broke on me and I had to get a new one...I also want to make mention of the HDMI connection, it sometimes takes some finagling to get it to work with the TV...sometimes it comes on, sometimes not..very annoying connection and setup for HDMI. Still, it has been over three years now and it is still going strong and I am about to use it when I go back to school. Probably a strong three and a half stars, would have been four if not for the charger.
I was very excited about this computer and for 90% of actions it is great. However, I plug it into my Samsung DLP via HDMI and it won't show the TV. My HP connects perfectly. Samsung support absolutely no help. More important, I tried to connect it to my home group (my HP and Gateway connect perfectly) and it won't connect. I call a tech guy out and he says it is a samsung issue. I call samsung and they won't even do any diagnostics other than to say if the drivers show they work then that is all they do. I have now had 2 problems and Samsung has been useless. So long as everything is working, it is a great computer, once there is a problem, you are on your own. I won't but from them again.
I guess that I am responding to the person who was disappointed with his/her computers wifi speed, as a rule it is the wifi service itself and not the computer that is to blame for such problems- you might check there. As for my experience with this computer, I love it, easy to set-up and use and faster than the Gateway I gave to my wife. No problems with Windows 8[I actually like it better than Windows 7] and really am pleased with the quality and design of the Samsung keyboard vs. Gateway. Not a gamer or professional user, just a regular guy type user who is amazed at the speed and ability of these new machines
I purchased this laptop two months ago. Sa far so good! Samsung Series 3 NP300E5C-A09US 15.6-Inch Laptop is a fantastic item. I like the 15.6 inch screen, it works great, and the price was right. Although general it can supreme merchandise for you and i will be positively recommend it all Samsung Series 3 NP300E5C-A09US 15.6-Inch Laptop!
Samsung Series 3 NP300V5A-A03 15.6-Inch Deals
This review is from: Samsung Series 3 NP300V5A-A03 15.6-Inch Laptop (Personal Computers)
I needed a laptop for: presentation to clients, web & email, excel, watching movies when out of town.
This laptop is more than enough for all of that. If you're a gamer, there's probably not enough speed. If you're a graphic designer, the LCD may get on your nerves.
In general I prefer desktops because I like the modular components, cheaper price, more power, full-size keyboard & mouse.
The biggest issues for me with laptops are the keyboard & track pads. I use the number pad a lot, and this one has it. The keyboard on this computer also feels very natural and is pretty quiet when typing. I usually HATE track pads. On past laptops that I've owned, I never went anywhere without an additional mouse so that I wouldn't have to use horrid track pad and get frustrated at how long everything took. Samsung, being the same manufacturer as Apple products, uses the same large, well-designed track pad with multi-touch apple functionality (2-finger scroll, zoom-in or out by moving 2 fingers closer or farther apart...). I just played with this for a few hours with no mouse, and I'm pretty sure that I won't need to carry a mouse around with this computer.
It also runs very quietly (so much so that it almost seems like a solid state drive), quickly, and feels pretty light weight. Runs cool too, maybe that's normal for laptops now, but my older work laptop gets to hot to actually set it on your lap. It turns out that it's also currently consumer reports highest rated laptop under $700.
The only downside is the screen. While the screen quality is comparable with most other laptops under $1000, it's lower quality than what I'm accustomed to since I'm used to desktop monitors. That's a very small concession though.
This laptop failed after less than a year. I have had laptops from various brands including HP, Compaq, and Sony. All lasted 3-4 years besides replacing batteries once or twice a year. I will never buy another Samsung laptop. Samsung customer service is useless and now the computer is a useless brick sitting in the back of my closet.
Quality of laptop is higher than Dell and HP. The screen resolution is high and has good contrast. The problems others have stated here seem to be a software issue. Overall I haven't had any problems yet.
Prior to this, I used Macbook Air (11 inch screen) and it was not up to challenge for the relatively simple computing tasks and it lacked so many ports. This Samsung on the other hand is very powerful, lightweight,functional with a slick design(given, not as slick as Macbook Air), I would strongly recommend anyone who is looking for a lightweight, powerful laptop.
The stats listed for this item are not false. This is one of the few 11.6 inch laptops that was manufactured with a 128 GB SSD drive, and 4GB of ram. I thought it was a typo, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was exactly as was listed.
The only disappointment, is that this came with the faulty wifi card that's usually associated with the Series 9. I purchased an Intel Centrino combination bluetooth and wifi card for this and replaced it right away. The wifi now works perfectly. I had a tricky time opening the laptop up due to some stubborn screws. Be very careful not to strip the tiny things or it may be permanently sealed forever.
I should also mention that I'm typically someone who is very bothered when electronics are made of fingerprint prone materials. A good example would be the glass on touch screen phones. Many people say that this computer is a 'fingerprint magnet', but I actually found this to be false. While you WILL have some finger printing for every day use, it's only a 'magnet' if you're doing something like eating popcorn or a cheeseburger while using it. There is a glossy plastic frame around the screen that I would deem as a 'magnet', but you shouldn't be touching the screen with your fingers anyway.
Fantastic little computer once you replace the wifi card.
The internal wifi performance is acceptable in many situations. However, the wifi performance plummets when there are obstructions blocking the signal. The wifi on other laptops performed much better in the same challenging scenarios. I was willing to accept this flaw because the rest of the computer was perfect for me. I wanted the portability of an iPad with all the capabilities of a laptop. In addition, the mediocre internal wifi performance can be overcome with an external USB wifi adapter. As an upgrade, I got a USB adapter with 5 GHz capability; the internal wifi can only operate at 2.4 GHz.
The laptop is incredibly small, thin, and light. Yet, the keyboard and clickpad are decent-sized because all of the laptop surface is utilized. The clickpad is the best touchpad that I have ever used. Dozens of options for the clickpad allow it to be configured so well that a mouse won't be missed. I don't like tapping because it frequently results in accidental clicks, and you don't need it with this clickpad. The keyboard is decent, but it doesn't feel as good as other laptops. The tops of the keys are too flat, but this is true with many laptops. The keyboard backlighting is great for poor lighting scenarios. The screen is nice, and it is matte, which is crucial for preventing glare and reflections. Battery life seems good, and I guess that it will provide at least 5-6 hours. The computer came with a lot of unnecessary software that could slow it down. Fortunately, Samsung made it easy to install Windows 7 with only a minimum of software. In the process, I re-claimed some disk space by getting rid of the factory image. At $680, I am completely satisfied with this super portable notebook. The mediocre internal wifi would be hard to accept at a full retail of $1200.
ok, so i read all the positive reviews on this laptop & decided to go for it, i bought it here on amazon from DIGIDEALS for $600, boy i must tell you the lappy is sleek, sexy, lightweight, don't overheat and just all round great, the only reason i gave a 4 star rating is because the 0.3mp cam is just teribble for a lappy of this caliber & it's also a fingerprint magnet, no joke, anyways i never will really be using the cam anyway (got an acer d250 & a toshiba nb305 netbooks, by the way the cam is way better on the toshiba, anyways, this laptop is a must have @ this price, and guess what...you see that word "Refurbished" that you keep seeing bandied about all over the net about this laptop?, HA, it comes factory sealed by samsung complete with users manual & packaging, well plastic downed & protected, as hard as you can try, you will not be able to tell if it's new or a refurb. but you wanna know what's the best part of all that has me beaming? i kept seeing everywhere that this lappy comes with an i3 processor, well let me just tell you, I GOT AN i5 running @ 2.27ghz in mine, & it was the R580-JSB1US model,(the JBB2 comes with the i3) boy wasn't that a sweet surprise, see my pix.
I bought this laptop about two months ago and it is absolutely incredible. I still can't believe all that it came with for the price. It is extremely fast, has an intel processor, high quality graphic, comes with a blue ray player, has software within to connect the laptop to your TV, so you can see anything on your laptop on your tv screen including your blue ray movies, etc. (must purchase a box to get the connection complete). Comes with a limited word processing software, and many other extras. After doing months of research this was the absolute best laptop for the money. The only negatives I see is the speakers don't seem to go very loud and the mouse takes a little getting used too, other then that this is one of the best out there.
Hard to find anything noteworthy in this price range with blueray, HDMi, and screen size. The speed and look of the device is nice. I'm sure it could be faster with the new sandy bridge processor but I'm not a gamer, but I do everthing else which it's perferct for. The plastic cover like most laptops feels kinda cheap, and it would have been nice if it were preloaded with microsoft word starter. Other then that, theres really not much to complain about.
ASUS VivoBook X202E-DH31T 11.6-Inch Deals
This review is from: ASUS VivoBook X202E-DH31T 11.6-Inch Touch Laptop (Personal Computers)
I bought mine from the Microsoft store a couple days ago. This review does not cover my experience with Windows 8.
I've been looking for a new machine to carry on trips and to do presentations with to customers. So, it has to have the ability to do emails, browsing, pdf display, have a vga out connector, and a usb connector for the remote.
I've used larger laptops on trips, and smaller ones. This one seems about just the right size and weight. I've always hated the touchpads on them, and would use a plugin external mouse. To my pleasure, the touchscreen interface eliminates most of the problems with the touchpad.
The machine does all that I require, and exceeds my expectations with a giant disk drive. I'm surprised by how much I like it. It feels solid and well made. It boots and shuts down faster than any other machine I've had.
On the downside, I would like to have the retina display, and the machine isn't silent - there's the fan and the rotating disk drive which makes a little noise when you tilt the machine. I'd rather have an SSD, but I did not take any stars off for these issues because they would have added considerably to the price.
Can't say much more about this computer than has been said already. I used an awesome youtube review ([...]) in my decision to buy this one and I would suggest checking it out for pros and cons.
I am really just writing this review to mention an issue that other will have. This computer has a fairly wide bezel (the edge area around the screen). Therefore, it doesn't fit into every case made for 11.6in laptops, especially ones for a Macbook air. You may do better looking for a 12-13in case if you're having trouble fitting it in. I will be using a 13.3in case to avoid scratching my new comp. Just a tip... hope it helps.
I buy lots of computers because I teach and use technical innovation whenever I can. I bought this thinking it was an inexpensive backup that I could use. I don't write many reviews, but I am writing this because this is literally a piece of junk. ASUS makes good stuff, but they should not sell something regardless of price point if it is useless. I don't even use it. The track pad is the worst I have ever seen and that is saying something. Every time I touch it two or three windows open. The screen is barely above wretched, the battery lasts about 90 minutes and the cursor is hard to control. The machine freezes every five minutes or so and then you have tow wait about 2 minutes for it to unfreeze. You may think I am making this up but I am not. It is a piece of junk-avoid it like the plague.
I bought mine from the Microsoft store a couple days ago. This review does not cover my experience with Windows 8.
I've been looking for a new machine to carry on trips and to do presentations with to customers. So, it has to have the ability to do emails, browsing, pdf display, have a vga out connector, and a usb connector for the remote.
I've used larger laptops on trips, and smaller ones. This one seems about just the right size and weight. I've always hated the touchpads on them, and would use a plugin external mouse. To my pleasure, the touchscreen interface eliminates most of the problems with the touchpad.
The machine does all that I require, and exceeds my expectations with a giant disk drive. I'm surprised by how much I like it. It feels solid and well made. It boots and shuts down faster than any other machine I've had.
On the downside, I would like to have the retina display, and the machine isn't silent - there's the fan and the rotating disk drive which makes a little noise when you tilt the machine. I'd rather have an SSD, but I did not take any stars off for these issues because they would have added considerably to the price.
Can't say much more about this computer than has been said already. I used an awesome youtube review ([...]) in my decision to buy this one and I would suggest checking it out for pros and cons.
I am really just writing this review to mention an issue that other will have. This computer has a fairly wide bezel (the edge area around the screen). Therefore, it doesn't fit into every case made for 11.6in laptops, especially ones for a Macbook air. You may do better looking for a 12-13in case if you're having trouble fitting it in. I will be using a 13.3in case to avoid scratching my new comp. Just a tip... hope it helps.
I think Samsung is becoming quality leader in computers and tvs.You get Sony quality without paying Sony prices.The computer came as ordered in a few days ,and I was very impressed with the beauty and quality of the Samsung.I registered and was informed that Samsung had added 3 more months to my warranty .Now that's what I call a great company.Setup was easy even for a non techie.I was surprised to find a watered down Word & Excel which was great since I never used all the functions of Word .Since Outlook express is no longer available ,I researched a little and downloaded Thunderbird and then found thet Microsoft had an email client called Windows Live Mail which is an improvement over Outlook Express .Setup was great ,I just typed in my email address and my password and that was it.No more configuring incoming ,outgoing, Windows took care of that .So far this laptop boots fast and is a pleasure to work with.I purchased Rebit5 a recovery system which I bought with 1tb hardrive and backed up everyhing .If I had one complaint it would be the computer is a little on the heavy side and the battery only last around 3 1/2 hours .But I come back to the reason I bought this laptop ,where do you get a computer like this for $499.99 ?
I love this laptop! It has everything I need and the price was affordable. My only complaint is I ordered a silver one and they sent me a brown one. The brown shows every fingerprint, I am very disappointed about this! I do not feel like going thru the return process so I will deal with it.
I have had my Samsung laptop for about 2 years now and it still works like new! I do agree with the other reviews that at times things can be laggy but it does not happen very often. The computer is great for school work and just surfing online.If you are looking for a reliable computer for school then this is it. However, it is a little heavy but you do have a nice size screen. All in all definitely depends on what you want to accomplish on your laptop.
